Following on from our highly successful relationship with a key provider of climate change consultancy and carbon management services, IT Solutions is currently devising an environment-conscious package of services aimed at making ‘green’ issues an implicit consideration in the provision of ICT infrastructure, systems and services.
In an age where the environment needs to be a personal concern to everyone, we feel strongly that there could be a much greater understanding of the surprisingly high environmental impact of ICT use in businesses. We recognise that due to the limited resources available to small businesses (compared to corporates), it needs to be much easier for companies in this sector to participate in and benefit from the environmental, financial and social benefits that an environmentally aware approach to ICT provisioning can bring.
In addition to reviewing the green credentials of the suppliers, products and services that we recommend to our client base, IT Solutions will also be changing its procurement policies to keep pace with current and planned legal requirements for the disposal of electronic equipment (the government’s ‘WEEE’ Directive) and carbon footprint management.
ITS is launching its commercial ‘green’ offerings with a monitoring solution, in conjunction with partner Jacarta in January 2008. This solution is designed to protect the considerable investment in ICT infrastructure (servers, telephone switches, network devices) from threats such as fire, water, humidity, temperature and power failure, in addition to providing the ability to monitor energy consumption by core network services. Using the output from these services, we also offer carbon footprint calculation and analysis of even the smallest commercial entity, enabling them to monitor the ever increasing cost but largely hidden costs of systems that are in constant operation.
